Computational Chemistry, Summer 2007: I conducted computer simulations of protein interaction with lipid bilayers and wrote code in Ruby and Java to parallelize the process over distributed nodes on the French Grid5000. Used NAMD for simulations. Supervised by Dr. Juan Elezgaray of the Institut EuropĂ©en de Chimie et Biologie in Bordeaux, France. Funded by Emory’s IRES program for research abroad.
Computational Chemistry, Summer 2006-2007: I designed and ran computer simulations of lipid micelles to investigate the stability of diheptanoyl phosphatidylcholine (DHPC). I also ran a long simulation of micelle self-assembly from an ordered starting configuration (will post a video at some point). Used Gromacs for simulations. Supervised by Dr. James Kindt of Emory University as part of the Emory SURE program.
Microbiology, Summer 2005: Investigated programmed cell-death of macrophages leading to tuberculosis. Learned and applied lab techniques like Western blotting, PCR, and mouse cell cultivation. Supervised by Dr. Heinz Remold of Harvard Medical School, Dept. of Immunology.
